Non-Contact Radar Measurement

Non-Contact Level Radar: Precise Measurement of Liquified Materials

Non-contact level radar provides continuous measurement of liquid material in large vessels used for storage and processing.  This includes a wide variety of different liquid materials including:

Molasses, fructose, fat and oil, diesel fuel, pigments and binders, plasticizers, and many other types of liquids used in today’s industrial processes.

They operate by sending radar pulses from the unit down into the vessel. The liquid material in the vessel reflects the signal back to the unit where a sensor processes the time of flight of the radar pulse and converts it a distance. This distance, along with the size and shape of the vessel, is then converted to an accurate measurement of the liquid material in the vessel.  For clients who need precise accurate measurements of vessels containing liquid materials, William Neundorfer & Co. recommends BinMaster’s non-contact level radar lines the Compact Non-Contact Radar (CNCR) and Non-Contact Radar (NCR). The following is a breakdown of the different radars to help in deciding which would be right for your application.

Compact Non-Contact Radar (CNCR) Line

100 Series

The 100 series is the ideal sensor for non-contact liquid level measurement in applications requiring a high level of environmental protection. They install using a polyurethane pigtail connection cable available in 16, 32, or 82-foot lengths. They are rated to IP66/IP68 (3 bar) with housings made from durable PVDF material with excellent chemical, abrasion, and flame resistance and UV stability. The FKM seal provides heat and chemical resistance for long-lasting durability.

CNCR-110
Measurement Distance: up to 26 ft.
The 110 features a two-wire 4-20 mA output and is offered with either a 1.5-inch threaded or straight NPT connection. The cable outlet is on the top of the sensor. They are for use in unclassified areas, non-EX environments, and have general purpose FM/CSA/CE certifications.

CNCR-120 and CNCR-130
Measurement Distance: up to 49 ft.
The 120 and 130 sensors are offered with either a two-wire 4-20 mA or four-wire Modbus output and a choice of a 1.5-inch threaded or straight NPT connection. The 120 model has the cable outlet on the top for mounting on the top of the vessel, whereas the 130 model has the cable outlet on the side. The 120 and 130 have general purpose FM/CSA/CE approvals for unclassified areas or are offered with optional ATEX/ICEx zone 1, 1/2 or FM/CSA/ATEX/ICEx Class I, II, III approvals.

CNCR-190
Measurement Distance: up to 49 ft.
The 190 is offered with either a two-wire 4-20 mA or fourwire Modbus output and features a 1.0-inch threaded or straight NPT connection. The cable outlet is on the top of the sensor. The 190 has general purpose FM/CSA/CE approvals for unclassified areas and are also offered with optional ATEX/ICEx zone 1, 1/2 or FM/CSA/ATEX/ICEx Class I, II, III approvals.

200 Series

The 200 series is ideal for when continuous readings are needed. They mount using a 1.5” threaded NPT or 1.5” threaded straight NPT connection. The enclosures are rated IP66/IP67, Type 4X to protect them from dust and water damage. They are ideal sensors for non-contact level measurement for basic liquid level applications. They are particularly suitable for use in water treatment, storage tanks with acids, lye, and additives in all industrial areas, or for measuring levels in plastic tanks or IBC containers through the tank walls.

CNCR-210
Measurement Distance: up to 26 ft.
The compact 210 features a two-wire 4-20 mA output and is offered with either a 1.5-inch threaded or straight NPT connection.

CNCR-220
Measurement Distance: up to 49 ft.
The 220 has the same dimensions as the 210 but offers an extended measuring range.

CNCR-230
Measurement Distance: up to 49 ft.
The 230 takes the 220 with its same range and adds an LED display on the sensor housing making level readings accessible from the sensor.

Non-Contact Radar (NCR) Line

The BinMaster NCR-25 and NCR-30 non-contact radar level sensors continuously measure all types of liquids contained in taller vessels.

NCR-25
Measurement Distance: up to 114 ft.
The NCR-25 is suitable for many types of liquid level applications, even under the difficult process conditions, high temperatures, and pressures. It can be used in water, liquid feeds, fuels, oils, fats, and other liquified materials such as resins. It comes in three models including a 1.59” horn antenna with 49’ maximum measurement and 15° beam angle, a 1.89” horn antenna with 65’ maximum measurement and 15° beam angle, or a 2.95” horn antenna with 114’ maximum measurement and 10° beam angle.

NCR-30
Measurement Distance: up to 114 ft.
The NCR-30 is suited for very corrosive or syrupy liquids in storage tanks and process vessels. It is appropriate for process conditions where sanitation and hygiene are essential, such as in human or animal food or pharmaceutical manufacturing. Its encapsulated horn antenna system guards against impairment of the sensor’s operation. A maintenance-free design ensures the sensor resists buildup on the face of the unit. The NCR-30 can be used for clean-in-place operations with strict hygienic standards.
